Moorea, Sunday, April 10, 2016. For its first edition, the Raid vahine was crowned Saturday success with over 1000 participants! Karine vetturino and Sophie Gardon are the first to have crossed the finish line.
Last February, the Raid vahine had to be postponed because of heavy rain. The first edition of this sporting event was finally passed in glorious sunshine.
The first women dedicated mountain race was held Saturday on the island of Moorea. Rarely has the ferry dock as crowded. To participate, you had to register as a duo. So there were more than 530 teams, 1074 women enrolled. Girlfriends, mothers and daughters, colleagues ran together and have supported each other.
The starting signal was given at the dock in Vaiare to 8 pm 30. Participants then headed to the town of Teavaro on the ring road for 1.5 km before entering the valley at the Polynesian waters. They are then mounted to the neck of Temae above the resort, before descending the ridge to the OPT. Participants were able to admire the scenery. On top of the pass, a beautiful view on Tahiti and Temae Beach is offered to the eyes of sports.
The finish line was on the beach of Temae, where many events were planned.
On the podium were found regulars. This is the team of Karine vetturino and Sophie Gardon that won in 51 minutes and 20 seconds.
